With more caves than any state park, Maquoketa Caves is one of Iowa’s most unique outdoor attractions. This place is awesome and we highly recommend. If you do visit, you need great hiking shoes and we of course recommend the Merrell’s. Also, bring a good flashlight. Arrive early (7:00 a.m.) as there are limited parking spaces. There are 6 miles of hiking trails and several caves to explore. Other highlights include the “Natural Bridge” and the “Balanced Rock”. This would be a great trip for the older kiddos.
