Leading up to our trip, we were tracking the Aurora/Northern Lights forecast on the gi.alaska.edu website. We felt we had a better shot to see the Northern Lights in Fairbanks the 1st three days of our trip, more on that later! So when we landed in Anchorage, we picked up a rental car and drove 7 hours north to Fairbanks. The driving conditions were not too bad. We checked into and highly recommend the Spring Hill Suites in Fairbanks.
One of the “touristy” things to do in Fairbanks is to visit the North Pole, where “the spirit of Christmas lives year-round”. There is no cost to walk around and visit Santa’s shop and the Reindeer.
